Picnic & Cave Art with Dr. Jan Simek in Pikeville, November 4

Date: November 04, 2018

Time: 12:00 Noon

Bring a brown-bag lunch and join us at a Tennessee treasure known for its rare and nationally significant cave art! Studied by the Smithsonian Institute, the National Geographic Society, the University of Tennessee, and more, Devilstep Hollow/Head of Sequatchie Springs has the only cave in the southeastern United States that contains petroglyphs, pictographs, and mud glyphs. Followed by a picnic at this historic and scenic site, archaeologist and educator Dr. Jan Simek will join our group to discuss the cave’s thousand year-old drawings. Limited spots available, so don’t delay!

Note: This presentation will feature photos taken from inside the cave, and will be held on the lawn (or in the lodge if poor weather) while we picnic! Due to vandalism and a very difficult entrance, the cave is not accessible or open to the public.

Location: Devilstep Hollow, Pikeville, TN 37367
